What Does It Feel Like?

I’ve asked this question more times than I can count: “Yes, but what does it FEEL like?” I’ve put it to countless mediums. How do you know that’s my Papa? Do you see him? What does he look like? He’s giving me advice about my future—can you hear him? What does his voice sound like? And when someone says my Aunt feels “far away,” I’ll immediately ask: Is she okay? Can you see her? What is she wearing?

Even now that I work as a medium myself, I still ask other intuitives the same thing. How do you know? What does it feel like? How does this actually work?

I especially enjoy life readings and connecting with those who’ve passed.

What I’ve come to understand is that I’ve been trying to translate a spiritual language through my physical senses—and that’s where it gets tricky. Psychic communication doesn’t usually come through the five senses. It flows through the intuitive ones: your third eye, random thoughts that slip in, or the sensation of someone standing close even when no one’s there.

Every medium works a little differently, but here’s how it tends to show up for me.

My Favorite Kinds of Readings

I especially enjoy life readings and connecting with those who’ve passed. Life readings usually focus on questions like Should I take the new job? Will I be moving soon? What’s going on with this relationship?

The messages I receive often come in images—like inner snapshots. Over time, I’ve learned how to interpret these inner visuals. When there are no changes on the horizon, I’ll see a long, flat road—smooth and steady. When shifts are coming, the road curves. That bend usually indicates upcoming change or uncertainty.

Once, during a session, I kept seeing a citrus tree. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t figure out why. So I just told the client, “I keep seeing this citrus tree, but I’m not sure what it means.” It turned out to be a deeply significant image for her—something only she could understand. She lit up when I mentioned it.

What does it mean to ‘see’ something psychically?

It’s not like seeing with my eyes. I couldn’t look outside and physically spot a citrus tree. It’s more like… remembering. You know how you can picture your childhood bedroom in your mind? That’s the same kind of vision. The image lives somewhere deep in my mind, and I can zoom in on it—usually by tilting my head slightly downward and slipping into that inner space.

Thought-Based Messages

Sometimes, communication arrives in the form of thoughts—but they aren’t my thoughts. The mind has to be quiet enough to notice when something unfamiliar slips in. These thoughts feel a little different—like something I’d never say or think myself. But they land with clarity and conviction. I just know they’re not from me.

Automatic Writing and Emailed Readings

I’ve done many readings through email or chat. I prefer them, honestly, because I get to use automatic writing. Spirit works through my fingers and the keyboard. I don’t plan or filter what I’m typing. I just let it flow, and when I stop, I go back and read what came through—and I’m often amazed. It doesn’t feel like me. It feels guided.

Messages From the Departed

When someone’s loved one steps forward, the connection varies. Every so often, I’ll get a clear visual. When that happens, I’ll describe what I see—down to the suspenders or white hair or approximate age. Most often, though, I receive details as thoughts: He’s about 5’10”, in his seventies, full head of white hair. It’s like they’re whispering in my mind, feeding me descriptions to share.

Picking Up Energy From the Living

Sometimes I can sense the energy of people I’m close to—even when they’re not nearby. If someone I love is having a rough day or a joyful one, I can feel it. Spirit often nudges me to pass along a message. I usually try to delay with a “give me ten more minutes”, but spirit doesn’t wait. The pressure builds until I just have to stop what I’m doing and deliver the message—whether it makes sense to me or not. It usually does to the person receiving it.

One Last Thing…

I hope this gives you a better sense of what spiritual communication feels like—from my perspective, at least. It’s not an exact science. It’s personal. It’s subtle. And it’s kind of miraculous.

It’s easy to second-guess yourself. But if you want to open up to it, you have to start by believing. Believe your loved ones are around. Believe your guides are communicating with you. And then allow the messages to come through. The more you trust, the more clearly you’ll hear them.

Believe first—then you’ll see.
