Beginning a Journey with Angels

For a long time, I’ve felt a gentle nudge to share what I’ve learned about angels—something to guide those who are just starting out, searching for comfort, or simply curious. If you're here because you’re feeling isolated or overwhelmed, or because something inside you is reaching for spiritual connection, I hope these words offer a starting point. Maybe you’ve always felt drawn to angels but never quite knew why. Whatever led you here, welcome.

My own connection with angels began during a time of emotional upheaval. I was going through something deeply difficult, and without even realizing it, I started seeking strength, support—something bigger than myself. I began noticing books and card decks I had never paid attention to before, and felt a strong urge to explore them. That intuitive pull was the beginning of a spiritual relationship that would change my life.

What helped me most was learning to listen to my own intuition.

As I delved deeper, I discovered an entire world of writing on the subject. Two works in particular helped me find my footing: A Little Light on Angels by Diana Cooper and Messages from Your Angels by Doreen Virtue. These felt like just the right introductions, gentle and accessible. What I share with you here is simply a first step, a soft doorway into angelic connection. From here, you’ll be able to find your own path forward—whatever form it takes.

Learning to Trust What Resonates

One of the first things I noticed while reading and exploring more about angels was how vastly different the messages, interpretations, and descriptions could be. Some material immediately felt right to me. Other pieces pushed me away—not because they were wrong, but because they didn’t align with where I was, or what I needed.

Over time, I came to understand that this variety isn’t a flaw—it’s part of the beauty. People experience angels in unique and personal ways, and that deeply colors what they share. Some are channeled messages, some are filtered through religion or mythology, and others stem from very individual spiritual journeys. None of them are more or less valid—they're simply reflections of different perspectives and energies.

What helped me most was learning to listen to my own intuition. When I received a message, saw a sign, or felt a presence, I stopped doubting whether it “matched” what others had described. I started trusting that what I received was meant for me, even if it didn’t look or sound like what I had read. That shift changed everything.

What Are Angels, Really?

At some point, it makes sense to ask: what are angels? The standard dictionary gives a familiar definition—spiritual beings said to act as messengers or servants of God, often depicted as robed, winged figures with a divine glow. You’ve likely seen these depictions in classic religious art, perhaps most famously with Archangel Gabriel in the nativity story: soaring through the sky, robe flowing, announcing miracles.

But angelic beings appear far beyond Christian tradition. They exist across cultures, faiths, and history. Christine Gore, in Angelic Reiki, touches on this vast lineage—pointing to ancient Egyptian art where winged humans and feathers symbolized divine presence. Greek and Roman mythology gave us Hermes and Mercury, messengers of the gods, often winged as well. Islam, too, speaks of angels as beings created from light, tall and beautiful, woven into the spiritual fabric of life.

Even a quick image search for “angels” reveals something striking: there's a shared energy in these depictions—serene, glowing, and filled with quiet strength. Whether literal or symbolic, they seem to carry a current of peace.

Experiencing Their Presence

For me, angels are less about form and more about feeling. I may not always picture them with wings or halos, but I recognize their presence the moment I feel it: a quiet wave of calm, a moment of clarity, a gentle sense that I am not alone. When I sit quietly, ask for help, or give thanks, I often feel a soft, steady peace settle over me. Sometimes it comes with words in my mind—not loud, but wise. Other times it’s just a knowing.

That, to me, is the essence of angelic energy.

You don’t have to see wings or hear voices. You don’t have to follow someone else’s path or use someone else’s words. If you feel drawn to angels, that’s enough. Start where you are. Open your heart, trust your inner voice, and know that you are being guided—even when you don’t fully understand it yet.
