I clearly remember my very first telephone reading.
It was with a highly reputable psychic, and… it was an absolute trainwreck. The information that came through was wildly off and completely irrelevant to me. I hung up feeling disappointed and disillusioned with the entire metaphysical world.
But here’s the strange part: deep down, I knew I had somehow sabotaged the reading. I didn’t know what I’d done wrong, but I had a gut feeling the fault was mine.
Since then, I’ve had about a dozen readings — and given just as many myself. I now understand the process from both sides: the client and the reader. So if you’re booking a session, here are five tips to help you get the most out of your psychic reading.
1. Trust the Process
You have to go in with a certain level of trust. A reading just won’t land if you’re mentally daring the psychic to prove themselves the entire time.
Maybe it’s the Law of Attraction at work, maybe it’s something else — but if you’re completely closed off to the possibility of psychic communication, it probably won’t happen for you. That was one of my biggest mistakes during my first reading. I showed up thinking, “Alright then, let’s see what you’ve got.”
It’s fine to be skeptical. But at the very least, go in with the mindset that it’s okay not to understand how it all works. Stay alert, stay grounded, and yes — be cautious if you sense unethical behavior. But also allow room for the possibility that psychic communication is real. Leave that door cracked open.
2. Be Open to Honesty
Psychic mediums don’t control what comes through. They simply pass along the messages they receive. And often, Spirit communicates what you need to hear — not what you want to hear.
Sometimes that means deeply personal, even uncomfortable truths come to the surface. Maybe it’s a nudge about your late-night drinking habits. Maybe Spirit brings up the cigarettes you thought no one knew about. Or maybe they’re addressing the heavy sadness you’ve been hiding from everyone — including yourself.
Spirit isn’t judging you. Your psychic medium shouldn’t be either. Be honest with yourself, and allow the message to land.
3. Don’t Show Up Scattered
A psychic reading works best when you come in with clarity. Why did you book it? What’s on your heart?
Set an intention beforehand. If there’s a specific person you want to hear from, ask for that connection in your mind before the reading. Be ready with a few questions. Don’t let a golden opportunity slip by just because you didn’t prepare.
4. Ask for Clarity
If something doesn’t make sense, say so. Most psychic mediums are more than happy to reframe a message or dig a little deeper to make it clearer.
You’re not hurting anyone’s feelings by asking for more explanation — and if they’re the real deal, they’ll appreciate your curiosity.
5. It’s Okay to Share
Early on, I thought you weren’t supposed to say anything during a reading. But after giving readings myself, I now understand how helpful it is when the client opens up a little.
It’s not about feeding the psychic. It’s about helping them tune in to the right signal.
Instead of asking, “Am I in the right career?” — try: “Most days I like my job, but I feel bored and restless lately. Am I on the right path?”
A good psychic medium isn’t trying to guess your life story. They’re trying to connect to energy and guidance — and a little openness helps the process flow far more smoothly.
Final Thoughts
A psychic reading is a collaboration. You don’t need to walk in with full belief, but you do need to walk in with openness, honesty, and intention. Trust the process, stay curious, and give Spirit space to speak. You might be surprised what you hear.
